The Eventide Ranch was created by San Antonio native Devin Elder as a special South Texas getaway for the Elder family and their guests. It wasn’t long before the ranch started to become home to a variety of exotic animal species. First introduced were a small herd or Blackbuck, a small antelope native to India.
The Blackbuck can be seen leaping throughout the ranch, and the males exhibit a beautiful set of spiraled horns that inspired the Eventide Ranch logo. Joining shortly thereafter was a herd of Axis Deer, a spotted animal that thrives in the South Texas brush.
The Elder family thoroughly enjoyed having these animals around, and the herds grew. Several extinct-in-the-wild Scimitar Horned Oryx joined Eventide Ranch and can be seen occasionally roaming through the brush, sticking close together. “Sneaky Pete” is the resident mascot of Eventide Ranch. The beautiful and docile Zebra was named for his propensity to quietly show up behind you at all times, anywhere on the ranch. A herd of Fallow Deer recently joined the ranch, and can be seen eating alongside a handful of native Whitetail deer.
Besides providing a healthy retreat in nature for the Elder family and their guests, Eventide Ranch also produces a limited run of custom items for sale. All proceeds go to the DJE Foundation and support the Heart of Texas Orphanage in the Philippines.
